About

“I’ll fight anyone, anytime, anywhere.”*

Attorney Beltran graduated from Harvard Law School and was previously associated with two of the world’s most feared litigation firms, Paul Weiss and Boies Schiller.  Between his associations with those firms, Attorney Beltran clerked for a well-respected federal judge in Florida.  Having handled cases from both sides of the aisle and also behind the bench, Attorney Beltran is well equipped to handle federal litigation.

A Roman military expert once said “if you want peace, prepare for war.” Attorney Beltran applies that approach to litigation by assiduously preparing all of his cases for trial. Attorney Beltran believes there is no substitute for hard work and obtains favorable outcomes for clients by preparing for battle. Attorney Beltran is known for his eloquent speeches, pithy writing, and rough demeanor. Attorney Beltran matches an Ivy-league education with the battle tested fortitude of an undefeated light heavyweight wrestler from Brooklyn. Attorney Beltran is a warrior who will go to any legal and ethical end to achieve a fair but decisive victory on behalf of any client.

Beltran has been at the forefront of judicial politics throughout his career. Attorney Beltran was nominated by multiple Florida Governors to serve on Judicial Nominating Commissions in both the Orlando and Tampa areas. Beltran was also himself shortlisted for judicial nomination. Beltran also served in the Florida House of Representatives, where he was known as the “Billslayer.” Legislators,  lobbyists, and government agencies alike feared Beltran’s devious tactics and fiery debates. Beltran successfully used his legal acumen and tactics to oppose dozens of bills that expanded government, wasted taxpayer funds, exploited consumers, or violated the Constitution. Through innovative tactics, Beltran achieved asymmetric victories, despite his principled refusal to engage with “leadership” (i.e. pay protection and bend then knee) and his consequent lack of a Chairmanship. After six years and hundreds of thousands of votes cast in his favor over three cycles, with what a Tampa Bay Times reporter deemed “an almost certain reelection” in 2024, Beltran declined to remain in public office, preferring to concentrate on what he does even better: representing the good people and privately-held businesses, one by one, in courts and other dispute resolution fora around the country.

Attorney Beltran is licensed in federal and state courts in Florida and New York. He has filed pleadings and briefs in courts throughout the United States and has worked with clients and lawyers from every inhabited continent.

Attorney Beltran feels that his clients deserve both the white shoe advocacy typical of the international law firms where he worked early in his career, and also the personal attention, strategic flexibility, and diabolical tactics that the Beltran Litigation platform facilitates.

ABOUT BELTRAN LITIGATION

Beltran Litigation, P.A. was founded by Attorney Michael Beltran, an experienced “BIGLAW” attorney who formerly served as a law clerk (a judge’s lawyer) with the Federal Court in Tampa.  Beltran Litigation’s mission is to provide superior advocacy services in civil and criminal litigation pending in the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida.  Beltran Litigation also accepts select state court matters in the Florida Circuit (trial) Courts and New York Supreme (trial) Courts. Matters further afield are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Attorney Beltran believes delivers superior value by providing highly aggressive, but still ethical, representation at a fraction of the cost of national firms. To this end, Attorney Beltran uses his experience and training to devise cost-effective litigation solutions for individuals and businesses, with a focus on small and medium-sized closely-held corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietors.

Attorney Beltran carefully manages the firm to limit overhead and waste, which allows him to handle complex matters and strive for exceptional results at only moderate expense. Larger firms must engage in lengthy conflict checks and tortuous committee meetings before approving a matter for representation. By contrast, Beltran Litigation, P.A. is frequently able to carefully evaluate matters within hours or days. For larger matters, Beltran Litigation, P.A. maintains contract and co-counsel relationships with other professionals, giving Beltran Litigation, P.A. the ability to handle a matter of any size while limiting fixed costs. Due to Beltran Litigation, P.A.’s structure and practice philosophy, clients seeking quality representation can draw upon Attorney Beltran’s experience with top New York-based firms while paying Florida rates.
